Job description
ASSYST is seeking a highly skilled Web Application Developer to join our client's team as a Part-Time Contractor. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing the code for our client's custom in-house web applications in accordance with business requirements. The primary focus will be on enhancing functionality, implementing new features and ensuring seamless integration with existing systems. This position requires expertise in various programming languages, database administration, web application development and enterprise-level integration.
Responsibilities: - Develop and deliver a public-facing web application with full-text, dataset-driven custom search functionality, enabling public access to content stored in SQL databases while ensuring data security.
- Implement public subscription features for identified datasets within the application.
- Build and deliver an externally and internally available web application, enabling data entry, file upload, search capabilities, and reporting functionalities.
- Ensure all PDF files uploaded to the applications are OCR'd for searchability.
- Collaborate with team to automate the import of dataset information.
- Clean, migrate, and vet content for two additional datasets.
- Implement secure internal and external access to the application via Active Directory and Single Sign-On.
- Provide final design, administrative, and support documentation necessary for ongoing maintenance and future development.
- Address any existing issues with datasets currently in production.
- Ensure successful turnover of completed applications upon project completion.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience in web application development, particularly with full-text search functionality and dataset-driven systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, JSP, J2EE, ASP, AJAX, JBOSS, .NET, PERL, and Python.
- Strong understanding of database administration, including experience with MS SQL and Oracle.
- Familiarity with OCR technology for PDF files is a plus.
- Experience with Active Directory and Single Sign-On implementation for user authentication.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Prior experience in a similar role within a legislative or public sector environment is preferred.
