Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a Travel Demand Modeler in the Central Office’s Transportation & Mobility Planning Division.
The selected candidate will provide expertise, recommendations for resolution of project issues, communicating with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs. Assisting with the development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures, guidance and practices for travel demand projects and programs. This challenging and rewarding position’s specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to: • Ensuring that planning deliverables meet accepted standards, are integrated and institutionalized in project development and can be clearly communicated throughout the agency.Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of transportation engineering, urban planning and related field.
• Extensive experience in travel demand modeling, with a proven track record of successful travel demand model development delivery.
• Ability to research, analyze, and prepare technical reports and project correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences and to make presentations and conduct meetings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Proficiency in industry-standard travel demand model software such as CUBE or TransCAD.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to apply advanced engineering principles and practices to a variety of complex transportation projects.
• Knowledge of project management processes.
• Skill and ability to positively interact with employees, citizens and government officials.
k• Proficiency to use ArcGIS.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, contracts, specifications and regulations.
• Ability to plan, coordinate and manage multiple, concurrent assignments.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
Additional Considerations
• Valid Professional Engineer’s (PE) License in Virginia, or have the ability to transfer current PE license in other state to Virginia in six months of employment.
• Certified Planner with American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
• Experience in software such as Highway Capacity Software, VISSIM, CORSIM, and ArcGIS with advanced statistical knowledge.
• Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering analysis and the development of performance measures.
