Job description
A contract Mechanical Design Engineer job is available with a manufacturing client in Springfield, Ohio. The individual will design and improve the handling solutions for use in the manufacturing of products. This includes troubleshooting existing solutions, creating designs to support manufacturing processes, and managing projects to implement solutions. This is a contract position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and analyze mechanical systems and manufacturing processing equipment
- Engineer systems/equipment which consists of purchased components and custom designed components that are integrated to provide highly repeatable, copy exact production processes
- Perform the design and building of tools, material handling systems, and fixtures
- Utilize statics and dynamics to compute local forces and moments to make sound design decisions
- Originate new concepts and conduct feasibility studies and testing on new/modified design concepts
- Develop and write equipment specifications and requirement documents
- Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design documentation, design testing and prototype fabrication
- Plan, schedule and execute development project plans
- Maintain project schedules and be accountable for the performance of designed equipment
- Design and create 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies using AutoCAD Inventor
- Create part and assembly drawings conforming to ASME Y14.100 standard
- Has firm understanding of geometric tolerancing for drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5 standard
- Prepare and present technical presentations
- Coordinate with outside suppliers and purchasing
- Follow software-directed workflow
- Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions
- Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S
Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, other closely related BS Engineering degree, or equivalent experience
- Experience in generating requirements documents, specifications, test plans and test procedures, applying design analysis techniques, and with mechanical modeling using AutoCAD inventor
- Solid working knowledge of mechanical, chemical or electrical disciplines
- Strong written and oral communication, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
- Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment
- Must be able to perform successfully under minimum supervision
- Must be able to drill down into a problem to identify the root cause and use innovation and vision to identify design solutions where necessary
