This is a perfect opportunity for entry-level Field Ecologists with 0-1 years of experience looking to jump-start their career by gaining first-hand experience interacting with and managing restored plant communities.

The team is working on all types of restoration projects—stream restoration, reforestation, and wetland restoration—throughout northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC. You will be reporting a couple of days per week to our Warrenton, VA office and your field days will be day trips to local restoration sites. What your day-to-day might look like?

Our team’s workload is diverse and varies seasonally, but is roughly 80% field work, 20% office time and includes:

• 60% invasive plant species management via chemical, manual, mechanical, cultural, and biological control
• 20% monitoring, focusing on collecting detailed tabular and geospatial data on restored vegetation communities as well as occasional in-stream monitoring work and groundwater well data collection in our restored wetlands
• 10% planting oversight and/or hands-on implementation, including tree, shrub, and herbaceous plant installation
• 10% will be focused on reporting. 

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities that this position entails. 

Qualifications

We would like to talk to you if you have the following:

• A bachelor’s degree in ecology, botany, forestry, or other natural science.
• Ideally, you already have basic plant identification skills, especially invasive plant species, and native trees and shrubs.
• Confidence in your physical and mental ability to effectively work outdoors in hot, humid weather. We of course take safety, hydration, and rest breaks seriously, but it is still tough work!

What will make you stand out:

• Pesticide License in MD, VA or DC.

Physical requirements of the job:

• Ability to work long hours outdoors
• Ability to walk 2 to 5 miles outdoors in various wetland and other rugged terrain
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
