Position Description
Tacoma Power's Rates, Planning and Analysis division is looking for a (Power Utility) Rates Intern to join their team this Summer 2024!
The Intern will get the opportunity to apply their skills & gain valuable experience working with Utility Rates staff to research historical rate schedules, historical capital expenditures and conduct trend analysis. Other opportunities may also be available depending upon the successful completion of primary goals and/or the skills and interests of the intern.
Responsibilities Include:
Research historical rate schedules and supporting data
Assist in the development of visualizations to show year over year changes in historical residential bills
Conduct a cost trend analysis of capital expenditures
Develop a narrative of the research methodology and findings for rate history and cost trend analysis projects
The expected duration of the internship 40 hours per week for approx. 12 week in Summer of 2024.
Qualifications
Minimum Education*
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience*
1 year of post-high school training

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Knowledge & Skills
Effective oral and written communication
Strong organizational skills
Ability to use software such as the Microsoft 365 Suite of programs
Effective communication and listening skills
Effective at analyzing, problem solving & research, detail oriented.

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
