Job description
The Speech-Language Pathologist will perform screenings, assess patient condition per ordering physician prescriptions, and design therapy and treatment plans to help the patient develop necessary communication and/or swallowing skills. The Speech-Language Pathologist will be knowledgeable in all patient care duties and documentation requirements for the following departments of Cayuga Medical Center: Emergency, Acute, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Outpatient Therapy Services, and Imaging for Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies. The Speech-Language Pathologist will be caring, empathetic and knowledgeable about communication and swallowing conditions and therapies.
Job Responsibilities include :
- Diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice and swallowing disorders.
- Creating treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of patients.
- Performing screenings to detect speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice and swallowing deficits. Recommending skilled speech-language pathology evaluation orders, if/when appropriate.
- Referring clients to additional medical or educational services, as appropriate.
- Educating patients, family members, and professional colleagues about communication and swallowing disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events.
- Keeping detailed records relating to patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress.
- Documenting information and writing reports with details regarding patient billing, insurance, evaluations, progress, treatment and discharge of patients.
- Remaining flexible regarding work schedule to meet client‐staffing requirements.
- Performing related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Delivering age-appropriate care for the patient population.
- Working collaboratively with professionals from many other disciplines.
- Attending and participating in scheduled staff and interdisciplinary patient care meetings.
- Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
