JOB SUMMARY

The President & CEO is the Chief Executive Officer and Administrator of the organization. The President & CEO is responsible to the FJI Board of Directors for the full range of activities, including coordination of the program of work; organizational structure and procedures; motivation of volunteers; fiscal management; maintenance of membership; employment, training, and supervision of staff; interpretation of Board policy; maintenance of building quarters; and long-range planning.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

Program of Work:Through the proper committee, the President & CEO is responsible for identification of FJI and community needs and for the preparation of a Program of Work designed to meet these needs as articulated in the FJI Strategic Planning process. This involves a constant evaluation of the program, with recommendations for change as needed, and a system of measuring progress toward attainment of program and

community goals.

Liaison:

With FJI Members:The President & CEO must motivate members to support personally and financially a strong FJI program. The President & CEO must analyze and interpret the needs of members and recommend revisions in the Program of Work to improve service and assistance to make membership more valuable. The President & CEO solicits suggestions, proposals, and requests from members and translates them into actions consistent with the fundamental objectives and policies of FJI.

With FJI Board of Directors:The President & CEO must earn and maintain the respect and confidence of the FJI Board of Directors, individually and collectively. The President & CEO is responsible for preparing an agenda, maintaining Board meeting minutes and record, carrying out plans and programs of the Board in accordance with established policies, serving as representative of the Board for all contacts with FJI staff, initiating programs for consideration by the Board, and advising the Board on all matters under consideration. Finally, the President & CEO is responsible for the implementation of the Board engagement cycle each year.

With the Community:Through personal contact with key community leaders, the President & CEO helps shape the community. The President & CEO is frequently called upon to connect FJI activities to the efforts of all other groups in the improvement of the commercial, industrial, and civic life in the community. The President & CEO represents FJI in local, state and national organization meetings. The President & CEO must constantly strive to develop a better public understanding of the purpose and functions of the organization.

With Key Community Partners:The President & CEO is responsible for creating and maintaining important FJI partnerships. This includes executive level relationship building and organizational alignment of activities and efforts. There are multiple key partners with whom FJI collaborates. The President & CEO must also leverage the Forward Foundation when needed with select community opportunities.

Organization Structure & Procedures:The President & CEO must pay constant attention to the internal structure of FJI to ensure that the organization functions with maximum efficiency in the anticipation, identifications, and solutions of related community issues. Maximum efficiency is delivered via a quarterly planning and execution process. All FJI team members are part of this effort with individual plans tied to organizational goals. The President & CEO recommends changes in structure and procedures as needed to the FJI Board of Directors.

Motivation of Volunteers: The President & CEO motivates and inspires FJI volunteers to creative and fruitful actions for the overall effectiveness of the organization.

Fiscal Management:Through the Treasurer and Finance Committee, the President & CEO is responsible for developing the annual budget and relating it to Program of Work goals. As approved by the FJI Board, the President & CEO is responsible for all expenditures within the framework of the budget. The President & CEO is responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements of income and expenses. The President & CEOensures that financial records of FJI are reviewed annually as required by the bylaws. The President & CEO seeks maximum staff efficiency in all financial procedures.

Committees:The President & CEO is responsible for/serves as Staff Advisor to all councils, working groups, task forces, and projects. The President & CEO designates staff to serve as support to maximize resources.

Staff:The President & CEO is responsible for the employment, education, and termination of all FJI staff. This includes assignment of duties and supervision of work within the framework of the approved budget and the terms of their employment. As indicated by the Program of Work, the President & CEO creates positions needed to implement the program. The President & CEO develops, and conducts, continuing on-the-job training programs and ensures participation in professional conferences, seminars, and institutes needed to develop and maintain FJI operation at peak efficiency.

Implementation of Policy:The President & CEO ensures that policy, as established by the FJI Board of Directors, is properly implemented. The President & CEO assists the FJI Board of Directors and FJI committees, members, and staff in interpretations of policy in relation to any given policy or program. The President & CEO assists the FJI Board of Directors with preparation of statements of FJI positions on public issues.

Office Facilities:As approved by the FJI Board of Directors, the President & CEO is responsible for the location, design, and maintenance of the building that provides for an efficient operation and presents an attractive “front door” for use by FJI members, visitors, vendors, customers, and the community.

Long-range Planning:Under the direction of a constantly evolving FJI Board of Directors and an annually changing roster of officers, the President & CEO is responsible for maintaining continuity and consistency in programming. Based on proper research of community needs, the President & CEO must anticipate emerging and long-range problems and recommend FJI and community programs to meet such problems through the established Strategic Planning Process.

Key Skillsets Required:

Board of Directors/Team Development:The FJI Board of Directors is a diverse, high-caliber team of professionals who are involved in the community and committed to FJI’s mission and membership. The President & CEO is responsible for FJI Board of Director recruitment and continuous development of FJI Board relationships. The President & CEO manages the FJI staff to ensure organizational goals are met. The President & CEO is responsible for continuous team member development and satisfaction.

Financial/Operating Performance:The President & CEO is responsible for management of revenue and expenses to deliver annual budgetary goals. Additionally, continuous improvement efforts for key revenue drivers (e.g., membership, events, promotions) are needed to ensure organizational growth. The President & CEO is responsible for organizational goal setting combined with tactical execution to deliver desired outcomes.

Strategic Planning/Foresight:The President & CEO is responsible for facilitating the FJI Board, FJI members, and community partners in charting a course to navigate the changing economic landscape and build capacity for the future of the organization.

Relationship Management:The President & CEO sets the tone and culture for building an organization that is member driven and customer focused and builds community partnerships to accomplish outcomes beyond individual capacities. The President & CEO is the chief advocate for FJI and our community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience:5 years minimum progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably at the executive level (e.g., VP, EVP, C-Level, or Executive Director); established experience of community involvement engaging with diverse populations—ranging from volunteers and donors to community and corporate leaders.
