Overview:

The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful professional hands-on experience to students with leadership potential and proven academic performance. Werfen hires students majoring in Engineering, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Life Sciences fields into this internship program based on business need. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities. 

Position Description

• Perform entry level work of a routine nature requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related tasks.
• The Intern will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the team included aiding other departments as they relate to department projects. We expect the intern to gain an in-depth knowledge of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program and requirements in-which they will be directly involved. The intern will have opportunities to assist in nearly all aspects of the workflow.

Key Attributes 

• Assist with the implementation of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program under the direction of the EHS Officer.
• Work with all departments to update chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) in an online system.
• Assists with improvements to recycling and reuse programs.
• Assists with implementation of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Assists with updating log sheets, signage and forms.
• Assists with other projects, as assigned by the EHS Officer.

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

• Currently pursuing B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety or related program with a minimum of 4 college semesters complete.
• Interested in working in a manufacturing or laboratory setting in the EHS field.
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal & organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and multitask.
