The Position

Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The incumbent should possess a thorough knowledge of current GIS software and tools, including but not limited to ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Collector, and Web AppBuilder. The incumbent should be highly proficient in current skills, techniques, and methodologies commonly used in GIS, including but not limited to data management, database development, cartography, spatial analysis, task automation, and scripting. Familiarity with enterprise-level systems, servers, and native app/web development a plus. Duties include participating in daily Scrum meetings; completing GIS tasks as assigned; processing internal and external GIS data requests; building, maintaining, and working with data management systems; processing and analyzing wildlife resource and habitat data; building and maintaining mobile and web-based tools for field data entry and viewing; building and maintaining web-based dashboards and summary tools for management use. Additional duties include participating in GIS project planning; providing alternative methods to improve accuracy or efficiency; identifying and participating in relevant training events or conferences; providing technical support to NDOW staff for GIS software and applications; participating in field work when necessary for learning purposes and/or product testing. To Qualify

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Skills Required Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access). The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
