Description Assist the Director in the performance of all day-to-day operations of the Office of Financial Aid. These activities include meeting individually with students, corresponding and talking on the telephone with students and families about financial aid issues, and keeping current on federal and state regulations and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities: - Build a cooperative relationship with parents and students, other university offices, and the community at large.
- Assist in the development of office philosophies, policies and procedures.
- Handle all required procedures related to the administration and maintenance of the NYS TAP program.
- Help develop and expand system applications to the financial aid process.
- Monitor and act as liaison for the federal work-study program; end of year one-time manual disbursement.
- Oversee satisfactory academic progress, both federal and state.
- Coordinate the selection of recipients for endowed scholarships.
- Help insure compliance with all federal and state regulations pertaining to the administration of financial aid.
- Prepare statistical reports as needed.
- Outreach to potential transfer students aiding in the retention process.
- Coordinate upper-class student application review, packaging, verification, and appeals processing; assist with first-year students as needed.
- Provide individual assistance and counseling for HEOP students, including annual forms workshops and individual appointments and state reports.
- Remain current with knowledge and use of institutional software (i.e., PowerFAIDS, ELM, EDConnect, NYSHESC, PeopleSoft, Net Partner and Web Client).
- Assist with development and maintenance of a policies and procedures manual.
- Oversee Profile review and Daily Update.
- Liaison for NCAA and Say Yes.
- Veteran's Benefit liaison.
- Assist with on and off campus events.
- Act as liaison with the Office of Student Accounts regarding weekly disbursements.
- Lead IT specialist for all computer related upgrades, issues and concerns.
- Review potential over-awards on a weekly basis.
- Co-Manage the Net Partner system.
- Review/update letters used personally and contribute to review of office-wide communications.
- Other duties as assigned. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible administrative salaried position. Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year and a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours time period. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Pay range is $43,000 - $70,000. Qualifications
A bachelors degree is required and a masters degree is preferred. Candidate should have at least 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid, demonstrated knowledge of student financial aid regulations and program administration, strong communication and leadership skills, and an interest in promoting private higher education to a diverse student body. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with PC based computerized financial aid systems. Desirable software skills in: Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerFAIDS, EDConnect, ELM.
