Job Summary: As a School Social Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and social-emotional well-being of students within the school community. Working collaboratively with educators, administrators, parents, and outside agencies, you will provide essential services to address various challenges students may face, including mental health issues, family problems, and academic difficulties. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, providing counseling and crisis intervention, and connecting students and families with community resources. Through your expertise and compassion, you will strive to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans to address identified concerns.
- Provide counseling and support services to students individually and in group settings.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success and well-being.
- Offer crisis intervention and support during emergencies or difficult situations.
- Advocate for students' rights and access to appropriate services and resources.
- Coordinate with outside agencies and community organizations to facilitate referrals and access to additional support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and professional development activities.
- Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal regulations related to school social work.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- State licensure or certification as a School Social Worker (if required).
- Previous experience working as a social worker in an educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of child development, behavioral health issues, and intervention strategies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Understanding of cultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Commitment to ethical practice and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic school environment.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily takes place within a school setting, with occasional off-site meetings or home visits.
- May require occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings or events.
