CellFE develops and utilizes proprietary microfluidic cell transfection technology for intracellular delivery of diverse genetic payloads to address the needs of contract manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies that specialize in ex-vivo cell therapy.

Position summary: The Microfluidics Engineer will be responsible for executing the research efforts towards the innovation, fundamental microfluidics and biomechanical knowledge of cell transfection technology developed by CellFE. Additionally, the Microfluidics Engineer will collaborate with the Science Team in the innovation of the microfluidic consumable products.

This position reports to the Head of Engineering

Location: This position is based from our corporate offices in Alameda, CA

Specific responsibilities:

• Design, fabricate, and characterize microfluidic devices for cell transfection
• Prototype, experimental fixture design and assembly
• Perform experiments and downstream analyses, such as, flow cytometry and live/dead assay
• Perform systematic investigations and data driven analysis of microfluidic transfection technology
• Collect, analyze, and rationalize experimental data
• Optimize transfection efficiency and devise new innovative approaches and uses for CellFE's microfluidic transfection technology
• Troubleshoot microfluidic transfection technology when required; identify failure modes and remedy solutions
• Communicate results to the key stakeholders
• Collaborate cross functionally with the science team on transfection technology
• Contribute to Intellectual Property development, submit IP disclosures, and facilitate patent preparation as required

Qualifications:

• PhD in mechanical engineering, physics, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related field preferred
• 2+ years' experience with fluid mechanics, mass transport and microfluidic are required
• Advanced imaging, surface chemistry, and cell mechanics, are highly desired, but not required
• Outstanding experimental design skills, including advance understanding of the fundamental microfluidic processes
• Demonstrated strong record of engineering success (peer-reviewed publications, patents, completed projects, and so on)

The expected salary range for this position is based on the primary location of CellFE's corporate headquarters in Alameda, CA is $130,000 - $165,000. CellFE considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
