Lead Teacher Job Description
The Lead Teacher will be responsible for maintaining a positive and appropriate educational environment and creating a program that meets the intellectual needs of all our children. The Lead Teacher will work alongside the Director to ensure our program provides all enrolled students with education, physical health, and emotional well-being.
Primary Classroom/Teaching Responsibilities:
- Create a developmentally appropriate program for our students
- Ensure the safety of all the children in the program
- Develop weekly/monthly themes, lesson plans, and class set-ups
- Propose creative ways to encourage new teaching techniques and learning experiences
- Assess children's individual needs and development
- Work closely with families to encourage mutual cooperation and partnership
- Provide guidance and instructional support to classroom teachers
- Assist in resolving conflicts with students and appropriate standards of discipline and behavior standards
- Closely follow CT state licensing regulations related to child care and operations
Primary Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provide direction and mentoring to classroom teachers
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the classroom, including maintaining a harmonious and efficient work environment, ensuring breaks are taken at appropriate times, the daily schedule is followed, etc.
- Takes the lead with classroom curriculum - Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation to ensure lesson plans, curriculum plans, supply requests, etc., are met on time.
- Meets all deadlines
- Assist in maintaining and providing periodic testing of the emergency response plan
- Monitors portfolios of all students and ensures any assessments are completed on time.
- Assist with families - Orientation and Communication
- Continues to develop professional self
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of three years experience teaching children 18 mos through 5 yrs in a childcare setting
- At least an associate in a subject related to working with children or a CDA preferred, or pursuing an associate or CT teaching credential.
- Proven ability to work effectively and professionally with adults, children, and parents
- Demonstrated skills in effective communication, both written and verbally
- Able to lift 40 lbs.
