Job description
The Institutional Giving Manager has a critical role in developing and implementing strategies for the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation’s institutional giving goals for foundation, corporate, and government support. This position specializes in proposal development and writing for all Free Library programming and resources, as well as unrestricted revenue, while providing support for donor stewardship, grant reporting, and other grant management processes. The ideal candidate will be a persuasive and experienced grant writer, display exceptional project management and relationship-building skills, think strategically, and have a keen eye for details.
Responsibilities
- Working collaboratively with Free Library, Foundation, and Read by 4th staff, develop programmatic, unrestricted, and campaign proposals for institutional funders (government, foundation, and corporate entities), including the co-creation of budgets and auxiliary materials to raise institutional revenue for the Free Library.
- Maintain and grow a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government funders for the assigned program areas that provides a pipeline to enable the Institutional Giving team to reach its financial goals.
- In conjunction with Institutional Giving team colleagues, steward current donors with the goal of increasing giving.
- Manage the Free Library’s EITC status and portfolio, identify prospects, manage solicitation, and oversee acknowledgments and reporting.
- Manage intake of all institutional awards, including timely acknowledgement, internal award processing and notification, and official handoff to Institutional Giving Coordinator at the grant implementation support and project management stage.
- Serve as the primary contact for Library staff for restricted programmatic efforts, including analyzing funder requirements and deadlines.
- Serve as departmental editor and provide guidance and feedback to colleagues on the team.
- Ensure complete and accurate Altru records of foundation, corporate, and government funders, including contacts, recognition requirements, grant guidelines, proposals, reports, and all other communications with grant funders, as necessary, using a “Moves Management” approach to ensure maximum engagement of each funder.
- Manage and maintain department’s digital records library and operations manual.
- Assist in identifying, researching and developing funding prospects including corporate, foundation, government for restricted programmatic efforts, including assisting in expanding funding from new and existing sources.
- Assist Director of Institutional Giving to ensure that institutional fundraising goals to support Library programs are met.
- Work effectively as part of the Development team to achieve fundraising objectives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 5-7 years’ experience in proposal writing, grants management, and research.
- Excellent and persuasive writing skills with the ability to articulate clear and concise thoughts
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently, setting priorities and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments, effectively communicating what information is needed from colleagues, creating schedules for submissions, and monitoring the timely production of necessary content.
- Sharp analytical skills to figure out the inputs that lead to desired outputs, figure out what’s missing, what’s redundant, and how to do it better with a strong focus on systems and process.
- Strong contributor in team environments to help strengthen internal communications, collaboration, and organizational culture.
- Exceptional research and project management skills, and ability to balance multiple, complex projects in a highly deadline-driven environment; professional experience in project management a plus.
- Ability to independently prioritize tasks, meet objectives, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities and supervise performance of colleagues.
- Ability to analyze and organize large amounts of information from multiple sources into a cogent, concise grant proposal, report, or summary.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including selecting appropriate information and tone.
- Understanding of local fundraising landscape and development cycle.
- Knowledge of government, foundation, and corporate giving.
- Resiliency and realistic optimism when articulating challenges in their work and ability to use a solutions-based, collaborative approach to drive change.
- Quick learner who demonstrates an eagerness to continually strengthen their understanding of youth literacy initiatives and their impact, successes, and challenges. Continually seeks constructive feedback and leverages input to move work forward.
- Flexible and adaptive to effectively manage changing priorities and new opportunities.
- Superior research skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Word and MS Excel.
- Familiarity with Altru software a plus.
- Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and their practices.
