Environment Artist (Contract)
Sucker Punch is looking for a talented, self-driven

We have a dynamic, creative and friendly atmosphere at our studio, where you can have a big impact on a project as an individual and as part of the creative team. This is a temporary contract position. Onsite and remote options are available.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Conceptualize, implement, levels and environments, adhering to art direction, and narrative and gameplay beats.
- Finishing out assets or areas of the environment, including detail and polish work.
- Work with other environment artists and the design team to create visually striking game environments.
- Create game environment assets (structures, terrain, props) using Autodesk Maya from photo reference and concept art.
- Collaborate with other members of the game development team to ensure gameplay mechanics, aesthetics, and player experience align seamlessly.
- Determine the size of spaces, placement of objects, and interactive elements, while considering factors like storytelling, gameplay flow, and visual coherence.
- Learn and utilize our methods and production pipeline to implement models into the run-time engine.
- Ensure the environment models meet the player metrics, performance and memory requirements of the game engine and hardware.
- Work within production schedules to meet the down-stream production requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Passion for art and design.
- A strong artistic sense of shape, proportion, and color.
- Must be highly experienced in modeling, texturing and working in Maya.
- Possess a great understanding of environment game design and composition.
- Strong understanding of gameplay metrics, space and flow.
- Flexible, ability to iterate and execute quickly on new or changing ideas.
- Demonstrated ability to create and edit textures in Substance and Photoshop.
- Ability to respond to art direction critiques and produce results on schedule.
- 1+ years as a professional environment artist.
- Strong communicator
DESIRED SKILLS AND PLUSES - Advanced modeling skills using Maya.
- Knowledge of texturing programs like Substance or Quixel.
- Knowledge of real-time rendering technology.
- Experience and strong skills using Z Brush or other sculpting software.
- General knowledge of physical based lighting, shader creation, and rendering.
- Previous console game development experience.
- A portfolio review is required. We prefer web-based submissions.
- Applicants should expect to take an art test.
Position is currently open to those eligible to work in the States or Canada.
This position is available for on-site, hybrid or fully remote.
This is a contract role. As well as open to remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base annual pay range for this role is: $79,700-$119,500
