Job Description:


The College of Science (CoS) consists of five academic departments and the Museum of Natural Science; offers seven majors with 20+ concentrations and provides pre-medical and pre-dental advising services to any LSU student. The primary role of this position is to showcase and promote the CoS to prospective students and families in various platforms. Outreach includes organizing and presenting to 500+ students and families during on-campus events; working closely with the LSU Office of Enrollment Management (EM) as well as CoS administration and academic departments.



Job Responsibilities:


(65%) Manage College Recruitment activities:


Recruit, attract and increase the number of outstanding students who pursue majors in the LSU College of Science. Tasks will include but are not limited to:


Organize, participate, and evaluate all CoS recruitment and yield events targeting prospective high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Events will include Kickoff LSU, Admitted Students Day, Destination LSU; Stamps Scholarship Weekend; EM programs for underrepresented student populations; possible addition of events is expected.


Coordinate with EM, various senior college recruiters, and the Ogden Honors College to develop comprehensive recruitment visits. Guide CoS prospective students and families to familiarize them through all stages of the recruitment and admissions process. Collaborate with Olinde Career Center and CoS Career Liaison to inform prospective students of the variety of career options available to CoS graduates.


Organize individual appointment and CoS tour requests using various platforms for communication such as Slate and the CoS website. Provide annual recruitment report to CoS administration; distribute EM data to CoS Administration; analyze CoS and EM data to provide assessment of recruitment services.


Collaborate with CoS communication to prepare and update recruitment material in compliance with LSU and college branding as well as order promotional items.


(25%) CoS Student Ambassador Program: Independently hire, train and evaluate 10 current student leaders serving as CoS ambassadors to give tours to prospective students/families, assist with and plan recruitment activities; Manage ambassadors weekly schedules; host semester trainings and monthly meetings; Ambassadors also
assist with Welcome week and participate in CoS retention activities; additional tasks are assigned as needed.


(10%) Additional Responsibilities:


Participates in all college programs such as Diploma Ceremonies, Honors Convocation, and Geaux Science events. Attends and participates in professional development.


Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Requirements:


Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer/laptop/iPad; ability to sit and/or stand in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through the use of phone, e-mail, Zoom/Teams, or direct contact with individuals (including conducting presentations or trainings and interacting with students/families). Overtime may be required during peak season of academic year.


Vehicle Operation - University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.


Minor Contact - This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.


FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
