The Empowered Communities Partnership Center provides community-centered, evidence-based solutions for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. The center is a beacon of hope, offering a drop-in environment where individuals can access resources, guidance, and peer-driven support to foster their recovery journey.
About the Position:
The Lead Peer Recovery Specialist (LPRS) plays a pivotal role at the Empowered Communities Partnership Center. As a certified professional, the LPRS provides mentorship to Peer Recovery Specialist interns, ensuring they receive the guidance and training essential to support drop-in center visitors effectively. The LPRS leverages their lived experience, training, and leadership abilities to create an environment of empathy, understanding, and hope for all who seek assistance.
Responsibilities:
Mentorship & Training:
- Provide ongoing mentorship, support, and guidance to Peer Recovery Specialist interns;
- Develop and oversee a training curriculum tailored to the needs of the center, ensuring interns are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge; and
- Monitor the progress of interns, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
Direct Peer Support:
- Engage with drop-in center visitors, offering lived-experience insights, and empathetic support;
- Facilitate group discussions, workshops, or sessions as needed; and
- Collaborate with other professionals at the center to ensure holistic support for all visitors.
Administration & Leadership:
- Collaborate with center management to assess the efficacy of peer recovery services and suggest improvements;
- Document interactions, success stories, and areas of improvement, ensuring the center continually refines its offerings; and
- Represent the peer recovery team in external meetings, conferences, or workshops.
Community Engagement & Advocacy:
- Foster strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and other relevant entities;
- Advocate for the benefits of peer-driven recovery support, breaking down stigmas and misconceptions; and
- Stay updated with the latest trends, research, and best practices in the peer recovery field, ensuring the center remains at the forefront of service provision.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Certification: Must possess a valid Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in Virginia;
- Experience: Prior experience in a peer recovery role with a proven track record of leadership or mentorship;
- Lived Experience: Stable recovery from a substance use disorder, with at least two (2) years of sobriety;
- Dedication: Commitment to promoting recovery, breaking stigmas, and uplifting the community;
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop budding Peer Recovery Specialists;
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to engage diverse audiences;
- Empathy & Resilience: The ability to understand, relate, and offer support, while maintaining personal boundaries and well-being;
- Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge of MS Office, documentation tools, and the ability to quickly adapt to center-specific software; and
- Transportation: Reliable transportation to meet participants and partners within the local Health District.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Language: Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking;
- Lived Experience: Prior experience of the carceral and legal systems; and
- Experience: Collaboration on an integrated team with behavioral health, medical, or justice system partners.
