Job description

Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.

The Research Assistant I will be working in the Huang Lab and will be involved in projects related to the identification of molecular mechanisms of risk genes associated to Alzheimers Disease and neurodegenerative diseases. The Research Assistant will be responsible for daily maintenance activities within the laboratory, including equipment maintenance, ordering, and fundamental research activities in the lab including mouse genotyping and inventory.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

* Perform molecular biology and biochemistry experiments related to neuroscience.
* Work under sterile conditions to maintain mammalian cell lines.
* Provide basic analyses and interpretations, and carry out other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
* Maintain detailed lab notebook, documenting all experimental procedures and recording results and data analysis.
* Assist lab members with experiments as required.
* Determines methods and procedures on new assignments or day-to-day work.
* Keeps written records of experiments and data organization
* Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems.
* Provides interpretation and analysis of results.
* Maintains various reagent collections, and inventories.
* Orders lab supplies as needed.

Required Experience

* Bachelors degree in a biological science, chemistry or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
* Prior lab experience is preferred
* Experience working with mouse models is preferred.
* Candidates with one or more years of experience may be considered for Level II

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $16.85-$24.00/hour per hour, commensurate with experience.
