General Statement of Duties

Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Provides a variety of routine case and program support services for Mental Health and Developmental Services in an hourly capacity; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Through peer support, provide outreach and support services to individuals receiving case management services. Using self and personal disclosure on one's own recovery and experience, assist individuals to identify their recovery goals and promote individual recovery. Promote personal responsibility and enhance awareness for individuals and their families. Provide assistance to persons in meeting basic living needs, linking persons to resources and participation in wellness activities. Participate as a team member to strengthen relationships within the recovery community, discuss treatment and support needs for persons seeking recovery. Document all interventions to meet regulatory requirements.

Some knowledge of mental health and intellectual disabilities services and service provision; some knowledge of resources available to clients; some knowledge of everyday needs and problems of different client groups; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children and adults, co-workers, and the public; ability to carry out tasks according to plans; ability to perform routine office duties such as filing, answering the phone, and completing forms.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school and one (1) year of public contact or human services work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Additional Information

Applicant should have experience as a mental health consumer, including psychiatric hospitalization(s). Completion of or eligible to complete the Peer Counseling Training Program is required. This position may be under-filled as a Peer Recovery Specialist Trainee
(HT.18) depending on the qualifications of the successful candidates(s) and the needs of the department at the time of hire. TB Screening and Child Protective Services Record Check required, upon hire.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Possession of valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia.
Requires maintaining current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist by the Virginia Certification Board (VCB
Must maintain registration with the Department of Health professionals as a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist
