Job description
NUVIA UK's Technical Services department are recruiting for an experienced Lead Civil Structural Engineer. This is an embedded opportunity, supporting one of our leading clients within the nuclear defence industry. Location wise, you can be remote based or located in NUVIA's Risley office, with travel to the client's site at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. We are able to recruit on either a contract (Inside IR35) or permanent basis.
Please note the ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance is essential, as a minimum.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:
- The technical management of the DSR Updates work package resources and delivery.
- The checking and review of all technical output from the DSR Updates work package.
- Identification of the extant DSRs that require updating in support of the safety claims made through the new PSC-220 Phase 4 safety assessment.
- Developing the methodology of updating the extant DSRs that are identified for updates.
- Updating (i.e. authoring and checking of) the extant DSRs.
- Input into the Facility Level Design Report as required by the 14 Dock Operations & Integration Manager.
- Provide subject matter expert advice related to their specialism.
- Ensure that the produced documentation covers the scope of operations required by the 14D Safety Project Manager and 14 Dock Operations & Integration Manager, and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
- Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and leading the project’s technical planning process.
- Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock’s Business Management System and Technical Manual.
- Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- The post holder must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.
- Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
- Sound project specification & planning experience.
- Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements, and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures.
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications.
- Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.
- Understanding of the workings of Nuclear licenced sites.
- Understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering activities through design, implementation and operation with a core focus on safety.
- Knowledge of Civil/Structural construction techniques employed for Nuclear Safety related facilities.
- Updating and authoring of technical documentation in support of the nuclear safety case(s).
- Understanding of the PRS process.
- 6-7 years experience.
- Able to work independently.
