Job description
Stark Parks is looking for a student working toward a degree in parks and recreation, forestry, environmental education or working toward a certification as a naturalist who is interested in gaining experience in teaching, program development, and outdoor recreation to a wide range of ages. Successful candidates will assist/lead hikes, outdoor programs and activities, such as kayaking, SUP.
Start Date(s): Internship periods can be based on your availability...
• Spring (March 1 - May 31)
• Summer (June 1 - August 31)
• Fall (September 1 - October 31)
Time Commitment: 12 hours/week, some weekends and evenings. Hours and days will vary. This will be determined by the Education & Programs Manager.
Compensation: This is a non-paid, volunteer position for anyone interested in gaining experience in this field while sharing their love and excitement of the outdoors with others.
Supervision: The Naturalist Intern will report to the Education & Programming Manager
Knowledge, Skills: The naturalist intern's primary responsibility is to support the Education Staff and in turn will gain knowledge in the following areas...
• Will learn about the flora and fauna of the Great Lakes region
• Assisting and Teaching Outdoor Education programs in the field and in classrooms
• Public Speaking
• Writing & Program Development
• Organizational skills, verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict management
Working Conditions: As typical with this type of work, conditions vary with the environment, weather and as other circumstances warrant. Driver's license and insurance is required.
