Underwriter (FHA/Affordable Housing)
12+ month contract
Irving, TX (Hybrid Tuesday - Thursday)
Job Summary:
The FHA Underwriter plays a crucial role in the mortgage underwriting process, with a focus on Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loans. This position involves reviewing and analyzing loan applications to ensure they meet FHA and company guidelines. The Junior FHA Underwriter will work closely with senior underwriters, loan officers, and other stakeholders to assess the risk associated with loan applications and make recommendations for approval or denial.
Responsibilities:
Loan Application Review:
- Review and analyze loan applications to ensure compliance with FHA guidelines.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of loan documentation.
- Assess the creditworthiness of applicants based on financial information, credit reports, and other relevant factors.
Risk Assessment:
- Evaluate the risk associated with each loan application and make recommendations for approval or denial.
- Identify and communicate potential issues or discrepancies in loan files.
- Collaborate with senior underwriters to address complex underwriting scenarios.
Communication:
- Communicate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to gather additional information or clarification on loan applications.
- Provide clear and concise explanations for underwriting decisions.
Documentation:
- Ensure that all underwriting decisions and documentation are in compliance with FHA regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and organized underwriting files.
- Training and Development:
- Stay informed about changes in FHA guidelines and underwriting practices.
- Participate in training programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (preferred).
- 1-3 years of previous experience in mortgage underwriting or a related field.
- Familiarity with FHA guidelines and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
