Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
Supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Master’s degree and/or Massachusetts Mental Health licensure (LMHC, MSW, LICSW, Ph. D.), and 7+ years of experience working in higher education and student affairs strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and other administrative offices at Harvard. Experience working with individuals in crisis. Ability to take initiative, make decisions, follow through, and handle complex and confidential situations.
Current knowledge of laws, trends, and practices related to law and mental health in the student affairs environment, and experience applying them to the student intervention environment
Ability to be on call for student emergencies as needed.
Knowledgeable of accessibility services and accommodations in higher education.

Position Description: SUMMARY
Harvard Graduate School of Design seeks an Associate Director of Student Life to assist students as they navigate the unique challenges of graduate school; serving as a subject matter expert in resources and support for students on a variety of personal, medical, and academic issues. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Student Life and work in close partnership with other Student Affairs departments as well as collaborate with staff/faculty in providing the appropriate support and guidance.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provide Director of Student Life operational support and oversight of department activities related to enhancing the student experience.
Identify and counsel students who are referred by staff/faculty or self-identified as struggling academically due to personal and/or health reasons and ensure they are fully aware of GSD and Harvard resources.
Design and implement student programming focusing on student health and wellbeing.
Determine accessibility eligibility and implementation as well as assures faculty/staff comply with ADA policies and University guidelines around accessibility.
Serves as the primary contact for students with concerns pertaining to Title IX and Non-Discrimination and Anti-Bullying Policies, accessing potential community safety concerns as well as reporting options and resources.
Represent the GSD at University meetings as it pertains to job responsibilities.
In the absence of the Director of Student Life, serves as secondary contact for student crises and urgent matters, updating the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Senior Associate of Academic Affairs, and the Dean’s Office (when necessary) on the matter.
Serve as a secondary for students seeking support and resources.
Develop a respectful professional working relationship with GSD staff, faculty, and student groups to establish and maintain an open line of communication.
Work in partnership with senior management in formulating Student Affairs policies and procedures; make recommendations to improve overall administration.
Responsible for effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment for Student Life and temporary administrative staff.
Oversee GSD Residential Life programs and operations (renewable on a yearly basis).
