Job Summary

The  at UT Southwestern mission is to promote and support cutting-edge, integrative, and collaborative basic research in female reproductive biology, with a focus on signaling, gene regulation, and genome function. Under the directions of Dr. W. Lee Kraus, Ph.D., the Center fosters an environment of innovation, teamwork, and professionalism.

The Kraus lab is interested in the basic mechanisms of nuclear signaling and gene regulation by small molecules and how these signaling pathways relate to human physiology and disease states. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and scientifically curious Research Assistant with strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; experience with biochemical, molecular biology, genomics and animal research techniques is highly desired.

Preferred Skills

· Proficient in basic chemical, molecular, biochemical, and cell culture techniques.

· Basic computing skills, including familiarity with programs for data input or word processing (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

· Visual concentration and manual dexterity are required.

· Well organized and detail oriented.

· Able to work carefully with hazardous chemicals and biohazards.

· Personable, flexible, possess excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills, be able to multi-task, and take pride in providing exceptional service while working in a team-oriented environment.

Experience and Education

· Master’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or

· Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year research experience at level of Research Technician or equivalent. or

· Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years research experience including two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent. or

· High school graduation or GED and six (6) years research experience to include two (2) years at level of Research Technician or equivalent.

Department Preferred Job Duties

· Carry out supervised research assignments.

· Assist supervisor and other affiliated researchers with a variety of research projects involving molecular/biochemical approaches and mammalian/bacterial cell culture.

· Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.

· Performs analysis of research data, evaluates and compiles data and other information for publication.

· Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.

· Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing reports and papers for publication.

· Assist with special lab management projects at the request of the supervisor, the center Director, the center manager, or the lab manager. Includes, but not limited to, organizing, and sending reagents to other institutions, researching and testing equipment and protocols, organizing lab group activities, and assembling, organizing or cleaning equipment.

Job Duties

· Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

· Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.

· Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.

· Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.

· Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.

· Collects and organizes research data for project reports.

· May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.

· Performs other duties as assigned.
