SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is primarily responsible for English courses as necessary within the division. This instructor will be a member of the English and Humanities Division with all the responsibilities of a regular HCC faculty member. Additionally, this instructor will have responsibilities within the English concentration as a contributing team member in curriculum development, SLOA-related duties, and support of adjunct faculty teaching courses within the program.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The instructor reports directly to and is responsible to the Division Director of English & Humanities Division.
The instructor works closely with other faculty members and staff involved with teaching English and Humanities courses.
FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching –A faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach 15 credits in the fall and spring terms. Overload teaching is available with the approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services.
- Assessment – A faculty member is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, program, general education and institutional levels.
- Student Advisement – A faculty member is expected to advise students on courses, programs and career/transfer objectives, with support from Student Affairs.
- Student Advocacy – A faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and be available to help students as needed.
- Curriculum Development – A faculty member must be current in their field and transfer that knowledge to students with course content, and via teaching delivery. They are also expected to make continuous updates to the curriculum, and keep up-to-date with changing technology.
- Shared Governance – A faculty member participates in all levels of shared college governance, including- departmental, divisional, and institutional-wide activities.
- Professional Development – A faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the college’s strategic goals.
- College Service – A faculty member is expected to serve the college in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus life activities.
- Community Service – A faculty member serves the college in voluntary community service activity, that positively reflects the college’s image, and is not in conflict with the college’s strategic goals or their faculty responsibilities.
- Teaching Mentorship – Faculty within English guide and support adjunct faculty to meet curricular and course expectations in alignment with the mission and goals of the institution.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Masters degree is required in a discipline within English.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: A preference will be given to candidates who have recent teaching experience at the undergraduate/community college level. In addition, strong organizational, advising, and counseling skills are necessary. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators and strong classroom and teaching skills are required.
