Kelly Science & Clinical is looking for a Principal Membrane Scientist to support a rapidly growing construction materials R&D client at their state-of-the-art facility in Carlisle, PA.
SUMMARY
This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to contribute innovative technology and product solutions to deliver growth for the EPDM roofing product line and market. The successful candidate in this position will become an expert in rubber compounding, rubber processing and development of commercial roofing products. The EPDM Scientist will lead major innovation and new product development projects within the Research and Innovation group. This position operates under the general guidance of the EPDM R&D Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading research activities on new and existing products as well as identifying and implementing new technologies within the EPDM business group.
Leading multiple Innovation and New Product Development projects critical to support and grow the EPDM roofing business.
Utilizing advance material characterization techniques to establish structure property relationships of polymer materials.
Managing the technical projects from ideation through scale up to commercialization.
Supporting the EPDM roofing business through new product development, processing and performance improvement, raw material qualification and cost reduction projects.
Collaborating with sales, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, warranty departments and CCM staff on defined project priorities, project scope and future development directions.
Publish technical reports, conduct technical presentations, and champion safety
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Polymer Science and Engineering or Material Science & Engineering
Experience in the development of rubber products and their associated processing technologies such as mixing, extrusion and calendaring are a plus
Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physical, chemical, and mechanical behavior of the thermoplastic polymers
Knowledge to analyze data, understand structure property relationships of polymers and conduct relative testing and evaluations
Experience with FTIR, DSC, TGA and rheology analysis of polymers
Training or experience on the design of experiments, especially as applied to development of chemical formulations
Project management skills in a cross functional environment
Ability to communicate effectively
