Job Description
Heartland Traffic Services is looking for Diesel Mechanics and share our core values of Safety, Integrity & Teamwork and want to contribute to our collective purpose of providing Safer Roads Through Quality Service.
The position of Mechanic is primarily responsible for assisting in performing routine and specialized mechanical repairs, including troubleshooting, electrical repairs, brake systems, hydraulic systems, diesel/gas engines, and preventive maintenance in all fleet vehicles/equipment. It requires keeping records of work performed and keeping a clean and safe work area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair various makes/models of trucks and equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance according to set schedules
- Basic or better electrical skills and capable of reading simple schematics
- Ability to use diagnostic laptop tools
- Knowledge of diesel engines and dpf systems
- Welding, cutting and fabrication
- Off premises repairs as needed to support field crews
- Light duty and medium duty brake system repairs/maintenance
- Hydraulic system knowledge is a plus
- Ability to build tires or willingness to learn
- Ability to self-start and stay focused on the task at hand
- Maintain a positive attitude and ability to work as a team player
- Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License required, CDL a plus
- Mandatory initial drug test
- Must have medium duty to heavy duty mechanic tools
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to read and comprehend various measuring devices
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to stand and walk; to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with arms and use hands and fingers; and push, pull, lift, or carry materials, equipment and supplies.
