Community Associate Vision
Pharos Academy Charter School is looking for a Community Associate who is an “uber” kid person. The ideal candidate absolutely loves to support students both academically as well as behaviorally. There is an understanding that messing up and failure is a natural and welcomed part of the learning process. Pharos Academy embraces a restorative approach to discipline and believes that family and community partnerships are crucial.
Community Associate Core Responsibilities:
The community associate works closely with the Director of School Culture to provide support to scholars and classroom teachers and is responsible for providing behavioral support to students, ensuring students are on task and that the behavior expectations are implemented in a consistent, caring and disciplined manner. Additionally, the community associate will:
- Support with morning entry, dismissal, and bussing
- Help monitor uniform compliance each morning
- Ensure safety & school norms are met in hallways and stairwells
- Provide classroom management support as needed
- Support with scholars who are referred out of the classroom
- Record all behavior-related data & report behavior referrals to the Director of School Culture
- Provide lunch and recess support, ensuring a safe environment for all scholars
- Support with the planning and implementation of school culture events
- Attend and participate in culture team meetings and professional development

Compensation and Benefits
- Base Salary $45,000
- 401k plan with employer matching of 5 percent
- Benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, and optional Life Insurance
Qualifications
- High school diploma required, at minimum. Associates degree in Childhood Education or Child Development related field of study a plus
- Experience working with school-aged children in an academic or youth development setting
- Passion and commitment to teaching scholars in the Bronx and to closing the achievement gap
- Experience teaching or working with students in underserved areas preferred
Physical Requirements
- This job requires the employee to be on their feet the majority (85-95%) of the day.
- Employee may spend periods of time outside and exposed to varying weather conditions as needed throughout the school day.
