Key Duties - Diagnosing and treating complex medical conditions in animals, including those related to the digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, and urinary systems
- Conducting comprehensive physical exams and laboratory tests, such as blood work, X-rays, and ultrasound, to diagnose and monitor medical conditions
- Developing treatment plans, including medications, therapies, and dietary recommendations, to manage and treat medical conditions
- Communicating with pet owners and referring veterinarians to provide updates on the pet's condition, prognosis, and recommended treatment
- Collaborating with other veterinary specialists, such as surgeons and radiologists, to provide comprehensive care for pets with multiple or complex medical conditions

Key Skills, Qualifications & Client Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
- Successful completion of a rigorous three-year residency program in veterinary internal medicine, accredited by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM)
- Successful passing of the certification examination given by the ACVIM
- Active veterinary license in good standing in the state where they practice
- Strong clinical skills, including physical examination and diagnostic procedures such as laboratory tests, radiography, and ultrasonography
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with pet owners, referring veterinarians, and other veterinary specialists
- Compassion for animals and a commitment to providing high-quality veterinary care
