Job Description – Assistant Controller
General Description
The Assistant Controller provides direct assistance to the Corporate Controller in managing the accounting operations within the organization. The assistant controller will have direct responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the general ledger team exercising oversight within the organization including, but not limited to, financial reporting and analysis, cost accounting, financial records, inventory accounting, account reconciliations, and other financial related functions.
Duties - Manages professional level accounting functions and the preparation of reports including profitability, working capital, and balance sheet accounting
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
- Oversight of the internal and external audit process
- Develops and maintains a system of financial controls and reporting for the entire project accounting process to include monitoring and reporting of the project budget and job costing
- Assures financial integrity of all accounting functions and ensures controls are in place to comply with all FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) requirements and US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Benchmarks, establishes, and interprets operational and financial Key Performance Metrics (KPI’s)
- Drives process improvements and margin enhancements with timely data analysis
- Provides timely cost extraction data and acts as the integrator of data reporting standards across the group
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
- Performs special projects and completes other duties as assigned or requested
Required Experience and Education - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience within the Accounting/Financial Reporting function, with at least 3 of those years being within a Construction accounting setting
- Experience supervising an Accounting team in support of a large, national organization
- Experience working within an ERP system
Preferred Experience and Education - Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Advanced degree (ex: Master’s degree) in Accounting or Finance
- Experience working within JD Edwards
Skills - Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SOX compliance requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Self-starter who can work independently while supporting the needs of the team
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
- Effective time management skills
