Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, and working closely with members of the Corporate finance function, the Vice President of Finance (VP) is responsible for the organization’s financial reporting to regulatory and corporate stakeholders. The position leads annual budgeting and financial analysis functions, as well as develops policies and procedures to ensure consistency, reliability and transparency in the financial reporting function.
Essential Functions - Leads financial reporting function to convert financial statements prepared under statutory insurance accounting principles to GAAP
- Assists with special Accounting projects periodically - i.e. systems implementations and analyzing financial impact of growth strategies
- Produces financial data for management team and other stakeholders upon request
- Ensures strong internal control posture through development, enhancement and implementation of policies, procedures and systems
- Ensures reconciliation of general ledger accounts occur with appropriate source documentation maintained in conjunction with preparing monthly, quarterly reports for regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
- Serves as the liaison to the external audit & tax firm, and as the liaison to regulatory agencies conducting financial examinations on a periodic basis
- Analyzes financial statements for accuracy, comparison to budget and traditional variance analysis, adhering to corporate reporting timelines
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements derived from multiple accounting systems, adhering to corporate reporting timelines
- Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the executive and corporate finance teams informed of all critical issues
Requirements
- Strong computer aptitude which includes expertise with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) as well as experience with accounting software and general ledgers
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Excellent judgment, strong analytical and problem solving skills with particular attention to detail
- CPA preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or comparable discipline
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or similar work environment
- Management experience
