Job description

Summary:

The Staff Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation; using advanced proton accelerator treatment units; and record and verify treatment software; as well as simulating patients in accordance with prescription and instruction of radiation oncologists.


The Staff Radiation Therapist performs routine, complex, and specialized work as well as integration and administration of new technology. Complex patient procedures include: Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS); Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT); fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT); High Dose radiotherapy; Pediatric radiotherapy; Sedated Pediatric Radiotherapy, Cranio-Spinal Irradiation, Respiratory Management (SDX), KV/CBCT 6 axis imaging and complex tumor localization procedures. The Staff Radiation Therapist demonstrates competent use of the ARIA Radiation Oncology software and use of Citrix/Microsoft Office. The Staff Radiation Therapist provides patient care within a broad range of health care needs, including operating radiographic equipment in the special procedures suites. In addition to performing complex procedures independently, this position is responsible for providing clinical instruction to radiation therapy new hires, PRN RTT's, and Locum RTT's. The Staff Therapist duties include performing treatment as well as performing patient scheduling, chart maintenance, and proper billing and documentation.


The Staff Radiation Therapist is responsible for contributing to the efficient operation of the department. The Staff Radiation Therapist is expected to become proficient in the specialized areas that their manager/supervisor/lead deems necessary by one year of date of hire. Work at this level is performed under the general supervision of the Lead Radiation Therapist and the Radiation Therapy Manager/Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include scheduling patients, maintaining coordination of treatment related activities and perform patient education. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for efficient delivery of treatments with maximum patient satisfaction while following department policy for acquiring digital portal images to verify accurate patient treatment position and record all treatment parameters in patient chart. Monitor patients for unusual reactions and events, reporting occurrences to the Radiation Oncologist, Resident and/or Clinic Nurse. Review charts and all treatment parameters to ensure compliance with department QMP and perform periodic chart checks for completeness of documentation. The Radiation Therapist will also provide daily quality assurance on treatment units.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Experience/Education:

Salary: $55.00 - $71.04 /hour DOE.
