Water Safety Officer I (SR-15)

Performs as a trainee in a planned training program in ocean water safety work; assists in making ocean rescues and administering emergency life support measures; learns and enforces ordinances, rules, and regulations governing beach activities and shore water usage; advises public of ocean-related hazards on a continuous basis; renders first aid in cases of injury; and performs other related duties as required.
WATER SAFETY OFFICER I (SR 15) APPLICATION EVALUATION PROCESS:
1) Applications must be submitted online by February 24 , 2024 , 11:59 p.m., Hawaii Standard Time (HST) to be accepted.
2) Performance Test Date: March 28, 2024
Approximately 7 days prior to the Performance Test, candidates will be notified by mail of the specific time and place for the Performance Test. This Performance Test will be administered only on Oahu.
Some notifications will be sent via e-mail. You are responsible for monitoring instructions and correspondence from this office by checking your e-mail account in a timely manner. To ensure proper delivery, please make sure you:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

QUALIFYING PERFORMANCE TEST:
As part of the selection process, the Honolulu Emergency Services Department will be conducting a Performance Test. The Performance Test will consist of running 1,000 yards and swimming 1,000 yards. The test will determine whether a candidate has the required stamina and ability to carry out the duties a Water Safety Officer will be expected to perform on the job. Maximum time allowed: 25 minutes
The performance test will be administered on a pass/fail basis. Candidates must pass the performance test in order to be considered for the position.
