Job Summary:
- The Operations Manager supervises the manufacturing of thermoplastics medical components and device products. The Operations Manager will also be responsible for monitoring the daily manufacturing operations through functional teams through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and the manufacture of high-quality products that conform to individual customer specifications. Monitor employee productivity, quality, teamwork, attendance, and attention to detail. Responsible for effectively communicating with employees to maintain a healthy and positive working environment. Regularly monitors order volume and performs planning and capacity analysis and workforce adjustments to maximize labor utilization. Investigates non-conformances and customer complaints regarding products and recommends continuous improvements to correct and prevent recurrences. Manages Extrusion, Braiding, Secondary Operations, and Packaging departments. Manages with a collaborative leadership style and delivers results through his/her people.
Essential Job Functions:
- Monitoring employees’ daily manufacturing for quality, conforming product.
- Plans and monitors manufacturing of customer orders for timely shipment and workforce capacity analysis.
- Managing performance of employee workforce through effective communication and timely performance management.
- Diagnosing manufacturing problems and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to product quality.
- Provide leadership for operational excellence programs, including continuous improvement, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action.
- Understand and follow the SOP’s pertaining to the specific area.
- Understand and follow the Work Instructions pertaining to the specific area.
- Team with product development function to ensure smooth transition of R&D product to production.
- Identify opportunities for Value Improvement Projects (VIP’s) to reduce manufacturing costs
- Develop Department Supervisors to act as assist in running manufacturing.
- Team with Quality Control Department in the disposition of non-conforming product and resolution of quality problems.
- Maintains standards for housekeeping and safety.
- Monitors facilities to make sure that it runs at an optimal capacity and prevents down time. Suggests areas of improvements

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Physical Requirements:
- Successful completion of Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, manufacturing or business administration (i.e. manufacturing, operations, planning, engineering or business manufacturing.)
- Seven to ten years of experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Medical device or life sciences experience preferred. Highly regulated industry experience will also be considered (Food & Beverage and Semi-Conductor).
- A strong background in lean manufacturing principles with a track record of continuous improvement initiatives is preferred.
- Experience with case study, mathematical analysis, and conclusion.
- Able to effectively make presentations in both large and small group settings.
- Experience supervising personnel in a manufacturing setting to include distribution of work, scheduling, training, answering of questions related to work, problem solving, performance management and discipline.
- Knowledge of medium to advanced statistical concepts
- Able to calculate product cost breakdowns such as: piece/hr., hrs./piece, total cost of manufacture, piece part cost, machine and manufacturing cycle times, manufacturing yields, efficiencies, OTIF, costs by operation, and machine and equipment capacity.
- Proficient on Excel software. Ability to create and interpret spreadsheets, pivot tables and cost analysis.
- Excellent (written and verbal) communication and effective human interaction skills.
- Flexible to change, and possess a high degree level of integrity and “can do attitude”.
- Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals.
- Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner.
