Thermo-Mechanical Engineer

We are inviting a Mechanical Engineer with structural analysis expertise with deep knowledge of semiconductor packaging technologies to our team.

In this role you will be working on leading edge packaging technologies to enable AI architectures that will set new industry standards with respect to compute power, performance and efficiency. You will be working within the packaging team to carry out required structural analysis for packaging technologies under consideration; identify key failure modes under product use conditions, run appropriate parametric studies to influence product and package design upstream. You will be working on thermo-mechanical characterization of advanced packages to define design solutions and optimize package structure and materials to successfully meet assembly and reliability requirements. The results of your work will lead to advanced package designs that meet power dissipation, assembly, and reliability requirements, while delivering a system level solution for leading edge products in the data centers and high-end compute segment.

Responsibilities

• Develop finite element analysis models for wafer and assembly processes to predict stress, warpage, temperature. Identify key design, process and material knobs to drive process yield improvements.
• Develop finite element stress models for photonic packaging
• Perform system level finite element modeling to predict loads and responses under dynamic shock and vibration conditions
• Perform analysis to identify key reliability risks under product use conditions; drive appropriate design and materials solutions to improve product mechanical integrity.
• Perform multi-physics simulations such as solder collapse based modeling to define bump architecture or thermal-structural analysis for packaging stress.
• Summarize and communicate to key stakeholders across Lightmatter, suppliers and customers as required.
• Develop automation script using Python, Matlab to improve modeling efficiency.
• Write reports and document methodologies

Requirements

• Must know 2D/3D packaging technologies and previous exposure to thermo-mechanical challenges associated with these technologies
• 6 years and a Master’s degree or a PhD with 3 years experience in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or related Engineering field
• 3-6 years of experience in finite element analysis techniques and relevant coursework.
• Proficiency in using analysis tools such as ANSYS/ABAQUS
• Proficiency in using Structures and design tools such as Solidworks, AutoCAD
• Must have direct experience applying finite element methods to microelectronics packaging and system-level compute hardware
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in cross-functional teams
• Ability to work independently and tackle projects with minimal supervision
• Ability to think creatively and solve problems quickly

We offer competitive compensation. The base salary range for this role, inclusive of all US locations, is $130,000-$210,000. Your base salary will be determined based on location, experience, educational background, and market data.
