Job description
We are seeking an experienced Director of Logistics to lead and manage the movement of goods from Asia, through the United States, into Mexico, back into the United States. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of optimizing logistics processes, reducing costs, and improving efficiency in the delivery of goods and services. This role requires strategic thinking, leadership, and a deep understanding of global supply chain management.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement long-term logistics strategies to meet organizational goals and customer needs.
- Lead and manage logistics, warehouse, and transportation teams, setting objectives, reviewing performance, and providing training and development opportunities.
- Prepare and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency in operations. Manage transportation costs and freight consolidation, ensuring maximum value for every load being moved.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers, and other partners. Maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including customs brokers, Mexico partners, transportation providers, and other key contributors to the movement of goods.
- Ensure all logistics activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. This includes overseeing health and safety protocols in warehousing and transportation. Maintaining CTPAT certification standards, and IMMEX permit requirements.
- Oversee the flow of goods in and out of Mexico, ensure that the goods are properly classified and reported through the US Customs process. Stay informed on changes in Customs laws and pursue opportunities to reduce duties and taxes.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of logistics operations. Continuously seek ways to improve processes and reduce costs. Monitor ocean container costs and recommend best options to reduce these costs.
- Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, including those related to transportation disruptions, and geopolitical events .
Required Competencies & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with US and Mexican customs.
- Understanding of Importation/Exportation classifications for US and Mexico (Temporary status vs Permanent, Section 321 exception, In-bond vs Duties paid).
- Experience moving cargo from China into the United States.
- Experience Managing Small package, and LTL movement of goods within the United States.
- Strong understanding of the entire supply chain process, including manufacturing, warehousing, and transportation.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced and changing market environment.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- The Director of Logistics typically works in an office setting but may be required to visit warehouses, distribution centers, or other operational sites.
- Travel may be required to meet with suppliers, vendors, or to inspect operations at different locations.
