The Lead IT Engineer - Network will be primarily responsible for designing, configuring, implementing, managing, and supporting all network environments within UTLA’s corporate, distribution, and retail store business. Additional responsibilities include researching and developing technology standards and procedures, collaborating on architectural direction, and assisting Enterprise and Infrastructure Architecture teams with designing innovative solutions that meet the needs of a rapidly evolving business.
This position requires an experienced and technically oriented network expert who plays a key role in establishing and executing on the corporate strategy for IT Network team.
YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH ALL THESE GOALS BY:
- Network Design - Creates network designs and specifications, and overall architectures, topologies, configuration, and documentation of networks and networking technology. Documents user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security, and audit controls. Investigates associated risks and specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures. Translates logical designs into physical designs.
- Network Support - Develops procedures and documentation for network support. Leads the investigation, diagnosis, and resolution of network problems. Ensures that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures.
- IT Infrastructure : Provides technical expertise to enable the correct execution of operational procedures. Leads the implementation of agreed enterprise changes and maintenance routines. Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users, and managers.
- Change Management : Evaluates risks to the integrity of service environment inherent in proposed implementations (including availability, performance, security, and compliance of the business services impacted). Leads the assessment, analysis, development, documentation, and implementation of changes based on requests for change.
- Incident Management: Leads the investigation of escalated incidents to responsible service owners and seeks resolution. Manages recovery, following resolution of incidents. Ensures that resolved incidents are properly documented and closed.
- Hardware Design : Designs computing and communication equipment and ensures that hardware designs balance functional, service quality, security, systems management, and sustainability requirements. Translates logical designs into physical designs and delivers technical prototypes of proposed components for approval by customer and execution by technicians.
- Systems Design : Reviews others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology. Evaluates impact analysis on major design options and assesses and manages associated risks.
- Sourcing : Investigates suppliers and markets, and maintains a broad understanding of the commercial environment, to inform and develop commercial strategies and sourcing plans. Reviews business cases for alternative sourcing models, and on policy and procedures covering the selection of suppliers, tendering, and procurement.
- Testing : Reviews planning of the system and/or acceptance tests, including software security testing, within a development or integration project or program. Takes responsibility for integrity of testing and acceptance activities and contributes to the execution of these activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and deploy large scale enterprise LAN, WAN and WLAN solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network related hardware.
- Work closely with the business and IT to develop high performing, efficient, cost effective, and operationally supportable solutions that meet the business’ complex requirements.
- Ensures operations of enterprise-level network hardware and data communications systems by minimizing system downtime and maximizing system performance.
- Evaluate and identify opportunities for network performance, functionality, and improvement within the environment.
- Collaborates closely with peer ULTA IT, Infrastructure, ITRM, Operations and business teams to deliver infrastructure services to support Enterprise applications (i.e., SAP, JDA, HANA, Manhattan, GCP) throughout the company.
- Interface with internal/external customers and vendors to determine system and application requirements.
- Collaborate with Enterprise and Infrastructure Architecture teams to create and maintain standards and operating procedures, and provide information as appropriate to manager, project manager, and various departments within ULTA.
- Lead development and implementation efforts to bring automation into the environment.
- Conducts Infrastructure-specific project management activities; participates as an Infrastructure technical resource in business-related projects.
- Performs IT network consulting, including the network certification process of new development, and acquisitions.
- Conducts IT network research and development, as well as network/product evaluations and vendor certification.
- Define requirements in support of budget plans and make recommendations for ways to improve performance and reduce costs.
- Accountable for defining and reviewing project scope and providing final go ahead to the team.
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or applicable work experience
- 5+ years of progressive IT engineering experience supporting large scale enterprise network and security infrastructures using Cisco and Palo Alto solutions.
- 5+ years designing enterprise network and data center solutions.
- 5+ years’ advanced experience with routing, core switching, Cisco Nexus, ASA firewalls, Palo Alto firewalls, VLAN, VPN, WLAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, monitoring tools, network topologies, Gigamon, Tipping Point and F5 Big IP load balancing.
- 3+ years of management experience
- Expert level knowledge in enterprise scale routing and switching environments using the following protocols and technologies: EIGRP, OSFP, BGP, MPLS, STP, HSRP, VPN and ACI
- Expert knowledge of Network access methods including T1, DS3, OC3, Ethernet, and Wireless (WLC and Meraki).
- Proven experience and ability to manage problem resolutions of complex or intermittent issues in a multi-vendor, integrated enterprise environment.
- Advanced knowledge of network monitoring and performance analysis monitoring tools, and a history of using them for performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication skills; feels comfortable working with non-technical business partners.
- Skilled and comfortable with tackling complex challenges, either in leading the troubleshooting effort or advising/leading others
- Work with production support and project consultants in an onshore / offshore model
- Ability to mentor and develop inter/intra team engineers, analysts, and associates.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Solid knowledge of industry best practices and technical systems
- Off-hour’s support including 24x7 on-call required.
- Minimal travel required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cisco ACI
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) preferred.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Data Center preferred.
- Aruba Certified Professional – Campus Access (ACP) preferred.
- DNS/DHCP/IP Address Management tools (Infoblox)
- Scripting skills with Python, Puppet, Ansible or Chef
- Cloud Technologies and Infrastructure experience
- Experience with advanced analytics platforms (i.e., Extrahop, Netbrain, DNAC)
