Job description

The SPLC is seeking a Labor & Employee Relations Manager who is committed to supporting social justice! 

The Labor and Employee Relations Manager will be forward-thinking and committed to the mission of Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that recognizes staff as its most important resource. They will have the demonstrated ability to connect, build bridges and work collaboratively to develop, plan and implement employee relations practices. The Labor and Employee Relations Manager will handle issues involving bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit employees. They will also ensure that labor relations matters and activities are conducted in a manner consistent with SPLC’s labor relations and legal strategies, operational and strategic business objectives, and values. They will work to nurture a transparent and collaborative workplace and uphold the values of justice, equity diversity and inclusion.

Credible & Trusted. Skilled in establishing credibility throughout the organization with management and employees to be an effective listener and problem-solver of people issues. Adheres to strict confidentiality to maintain integrity and trustworthiness.

Problem-Solver. Ability to objectively coach employees and management through issues that may be complex, difficult and emotional. Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with policies, regulations, and government law.

Knowledgeable. Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including employee relations, performance management, compensation practices, performance management, federal and state respective employment laws.

Communicative. Regularly communicates with organizational and departmental leadership and employees. Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills. Skilled in oral and written communication.

Proficient. Demonstrated experience working in HRIS systems and case management software.

What You'll Do

Provide timely investigation summaries for all completed investigations and manage assigned employee complaints.

Conduct scheduled office visits and provides actionable feedback as needed.

Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and manage the grievance process in accordance with the CBA.

Monitor employee climate to identify issues/trends; recommends proactive solutions based on business needs/best practices and counsels Leadership on identifying issues and implementing corrective actions.

Perform exit interviews and analyzes data, making recommendations to the management team for corrective and continuous improvement.

Manage and support managers in performing semi-annual and annual employee performance reviews.

Develop and delivers HR related management training.

Support managers in the development and review of performance improvement plans and corrective actions, including termination requests and related documentation.

Assist management with the application and interpretation of human resources policies, compensation, benefits, performance problems, transfers, terminations and promotions.

Support SPLC’s justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) strategic plan.

Support implementation of HR programs into the business insuring an effective, sustainable people strategy over the long term.

Maintain and coordinate employee recognition and retention programs.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $94,793 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.

This role is expected to travel up to 20%.
