General Summary :
The Dental Hygiene Faculty is a creative, knowledgeable, and flexible individual who provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in a Dental Hygiene program that serves a diverse student body and community. The faculty works with the program administrator and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program; and participates in college service and student advisement. The faculty is equity-minded and committed to inclusive excellence, diversity, and continuous professional improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provide classroom instruction for sessions, which last up to four hours. This requires preparation of materials, conducting lecture/discussion, for a group of up to 24 students, using a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Didactic instruction also includes exam preparation, proctoring, correcting, grading, and posting of exam grades.
- Provide clinic/laboratory instruction, which includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, skill remediation, and evaluation of skill competence in a timely manner and according to department policy. Lab instruction may also include the preparation of equipment and materials for labs as well as securing/putting away equipment after the conclusion of the lab.
- Provide clinical instruction for a group of up to 5 students in a clinic session. Clinical instruction involves supervising, supporting, and instructing students as they provide direct client care during clinical sessions. Clinical instruction includes ongoing written formative feedback and summative evaluation of student progress during the clinical experience. Maintain and submit comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student in a timely manner.
- Post and conduct office hours in his/her office space
- Participate fully in department meetings including departmental committees, CODA accreditation self-study, team-taught course collaboration, assessment work, and calibration activities.
- Participate in college service
- Provide academic advising for students on an ongoing basis.
- Provide mentoring to dental hygiene students to assist students with clinical growth and development.
- Develop instructional materials that comply with established course content, support program student learning outcomes, and clearly define course goals, measurable student learning outcomes, learning activities, and assessments.
- Maintain currency in dental hygiene, clinical teaching and educational methodology, and dental hygiene education through participation in continuing education.
- Utilizes assessment data to improve teaching performance as evidenced by the evaluation process and the department's curriculum management plan.
- Demonstrates professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and standards of conduct at the college, classroom, and clinic setting with patients, students, and colleagues.
- Implement all dental hygiene program policies as well as applicable college policies and demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.
- Collaborate effectively with all faculty in planning, implementation, and evaluation of student experiences.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the program of learning in compliance with appropriate regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association
Job Requirements: - Current Massachusetts Registered Dental Hygiene license, Permit L to administer Local Anesthesia and current Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene.
- 3 years of full-time experience in dental hygiene clinical practice, or its equivalent, within the last five years Post-secondary clinical, simulation laboratory, or classroom teaching experience in Dental Hygiene.
- Demonstrated success in collaborative work environments.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene, Education, or related field.
- Teaching experience in a Community College dental hygiene program.
- Experience in teaching one or more of the following subject areas: Local Anesthesia, Preclinical Dental Hygiene, Oral Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, and Dental Radiology.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of alternative instructional methodologies and assessment strategies. Understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
