As an Engineering CO-OP for Production, Operational Excellence, and Manufacturing at Robern, you will be part of a close team responsible for implementing and improving manufacturing processes, new products, and overall performance. You will work closely with a cross-functional team, including New Product Development, designers, purchasing, supply chain, planning, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and production personnel, to develop and implement solutions that improve quality, increase efficiency, and reduce waste.
This opportunity requires a dedicated level of analytical problem-solving, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful coop will have a passion for Operational Excellence and Manufacturing, as well as strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gain a deep understanding of Robern's manufacturing processes, including raw materials selection, inventory management, production planning, and quality control.
- Learn supply chain techniques such as Kanban to optimize inventory levels and minimize waste.
- Gain expertise in lean production and other operational excellence manufacturing principles, such as Gemba Kaizen, TWI, efficient cell layouts, value stream mapping, Kaizen events, statistical process control, PDCA, and analytical methods.
- Build a strong foundation in quality and assurance processes and develop skills in root cause analysis and problem solving.
- Work with production engineering, new product development, the general supervisor, and leader of OPEX with select capital projects, and capital investments.
- Develop skills in statistical analysis software such as Minitab and Lucid, and use this knowledge to analyze data sets, identify trends, and forecast future performance.
- Additionally, exposure to simulation software such as SolidWorks Process & Flex Sim to model manufacturing processes and simulate various scenarios.
- Learn to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, quality specialists, supply chain management, and production personnel. Additionally, developing strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex data and analysis to a variety of audiences from team leaders to the Director of Operations.
- Gain wider exposure to the underlying methods of TPS and other operational excellence and manufacturing principles.
- Develop skills in change management and continuous improvement, including the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, develop and implement solutions, and measure and track results.
- Learn to use tools such as A3 thinking, PDCA cycles, and Gemba walks to drive continuous improvement efforts. Exposure to Manufacturing implementation of newly designed products including SOP documentation, tooling design, Cell flow design, time studies, process flow analysis, and PFMEAs.
- Strategic time studies with a focus on analyzing efficiency and balancing production lines.
- Driving continuous improvement projects on our existing product lines, ensuring production continuity.
Skills/Requirements
- Actively enrolled in a degree program from an accredited university
- Prefer one year of experience working in a manufacturing environment with some experience in operational excellence, manufacturing, and/or TPS/Lean methodologies is preferred but not required.
