Overview
Want to be outdoors in Louisville's Open Space for the summer? We invite you to apply for our Open Space Seasonal positions. We seek hardworking and motivated individuals to mow the open space trail corridors along the bike paths, provide trimming, pruning, and trash removal. Job duties could include assisting with noxious weed control, wildlife management, and additional duties as assigned.This seasonal position will be offered up to 40 hours per week starting as early as April 15th and ending no later than October 11th. A position is available to begin prior to the season working 29 hours per week which increases to 40 hours per week at the beginning of the season. Shorter season is available. Schedule may be flexible; no weekends are in the schedule however special events will occur throughout the Summer and weekends will be available to work.
Safety toed boot reimbursement up to $75 available.

Examples of Duties
- Open Space maintenance includes: trail edge mowing & trimming, trash removal, Harper Lake restroom cleaning twice a week, painting, and fence and trail construction.
- Assist with noxious weed control which may include mapping, monitoring, mowing, clipping and pulling of weeds.
- Assist with wildlife management which may include monitoring and mapping of species, locations and densities. The highest priority being prairie dog population, monitoring and control.
- Under the direction of the Open Space Manager this position will assist the Parks & Recreation Department in carrying out the city and department goals and objectives.
General Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for last 3 years and maintain a good driving record throughout employment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Candidates will be required to complete and pass a pre-placement physical, driving record, reference and background checks prior to employment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to utilize weed trimmer, lawn tractor, trailers, and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Knowledge of and willingness to apply work safety rules and procedures.
- Ability and experience in the safe operation of tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Experience with driving equipment and/or trailers.
- Ability to work effectively with full and part-time personnel, volunteers and members of the public.
- Ability to collect data and record information.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to identify noxious weeds is preferred but will train.
- An interest in Natural Resources, Rangeland Ecology or related field is desirable.
Additional Information
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Position works 90% outside and 10% in the office.
- Work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires the ability to work outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions including rain, snow, heat and high winds, walk on uneven terrain for long periods of time. Perform strenuous hiking, standing, walking, sitting, digging, hammering, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. Must be physically able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50-lbs.
