Job description

The Increasing Diversity in Environmental Careers (IDEC) program is a strategic partnership between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), Conservation Corps Minnesota and Iowa (CCMI), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), and the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (MBWSR). The IDEC program is one strategy developed by the state to tap into Minnesota’s diverse labor market. In addition to fostering the next generation of innovative environmental, natural resource, and conservation professionals, the IDEC program is committed to increasing access to outdoor recreation opportunities and promoting diversity amongst outdoor enthusiasts. The program is funded by LCCMR through the 
2024 Summer Rotational Internship - Cohort 5A  The IDEC program is offering a 10-week paid summer Rotational Internship for underrepresented college students (BIPOC, women, and/or individuals with disabilities). Those applying should be interested in learning about environmental and natural resource careers at the state level. Applicants do not need to be pursuing a STEM degree.

The IDEC program has currently adopted a hybrid model – which includes virtual days, in-person activities, and field trips. Most in-person activities and field trips take place in the Twin Cities metro area. In an effort to reduce transportation barriers for IDEC Fellows, the program offers travel accommodations to those living in Greater Minnesota.

*Cohort 5A is unique because it offers a one-time summer Rotational Learning Experience. Students interested in continuing to advance through the IDEC program and explore the additional benefits (including mentorship opportunities, multiple internships, and academic scholarships) may apply for Cohort 5B at the end of the summer.
