Job description
The Building People, LLC, has an immediate opening for a Technical Writer/Project Coordinator – Smart Buildings. We are in search of a meticulous and proactive individual to join our team as a Smart Building Technical Writer/Project Coordinator. This multifaceted role focuses on documenting, integrating, and managing smart building technologies and IoT solutions within federal and commercial facilities, alongside actively participating in the formal submission of RFPs and technical proposals.
Your primary responsibility will encompass crafting meticulous and comprehensive technical documentation related to smart building systems and protocols. Beyond documentation, you will play a pivotal role in supporting project managers by coordinating projects, ensuring seamless deployment, and monitoring project activities.
Your adeptness in translating intricate technical information into coherent documentation will be crucial. Moreover, your role will extend to actively contributing to the development and formal submission of RFPs and technical proposals, highlighting our expertise and innovative solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across diverse teams. This position offers flexibility, allowing for remote work during non-onsite periods, with readiness to relocate to the Washington DC metro area within two (2) days' notice when onsite presence is necessary.
Required Experience & Skills
- Technical Writing : Proven experience in creating clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation related to smart building systems, protocols, and technologies.
- Project Coordination : Ability to assist in project management tasks such as scheduling, resource management, and coordinating activities among multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of Smart Building Technologies : Familiarity with IoT devices, building automation systems, sensors, protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus), and data analytics within smart building environments.
- Attention to Detail : Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in technical documentation and project plans.
- Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Abilities : Capacity to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose effective solutions within smart building contexts.
- Organization and Time Management : Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Project Management Software : Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Jira, Microsoft Project) for task management, scheduling, and collaboration.
- Smart Building Industry Knowledge : Familiarity with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices within the smart building sector.
- Quality Assurance : Knowledge of QA processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of technical documentation.
- Multidisciplinary Background : Experience or education in both technical writing/documentation and project management fields.
- Certifications : Relevant certifications in technical writing, project management, or smart building technologies.
Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Technical Writing, Project Management, or related field. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Travel
- Travel may be required based on client location (domestic)
- Candidate may be remote during times when onsite work is not required if candidate can arrive in the Washington DC metro within two (2) days’ notice.
