H0770 Senior Phlebotomist
JOB SUMMARY
Assumes responsibility for receiving and determining acceptability of all specimens received in the Department of Pathology preparing specimens according to designated protocol for each laboratory procedure and engages in computer activity for the Laboratory Information System and the Hospital Information System,
Obtains blood and non-blood specimens from inpatients/outpatients/outreach by venipuncture from the arm and/or micro collections from fingers or infant heel in a variety of collection tubes or capillaries some of which contain preservatives or anticoagulants,
Assumes responsibility for actively contributing to section productivity and cost effectiveness,
Assumes responsibility for recognizing situations that require referral to Technical Supervisor Manager Laboratory Director or Chief of Section of Chairman of Department,
Senior phlebotomists are flexible working at various inpatient units and outpatient laboratory locations while maintaining a high level of attention to detail during patient s interactions,
Senior phlebotomists working in outreach are assigned to various nursing home locations,
Understanding of proper patient identification methods using two identifiers,
Knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to drawing blood handling specimen samples and the use of relevant medical equipment,
Experience using effective venipuncture techniques,
Knowledge of testing protocols and the use of testing equipment,
Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination,
Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
Required
High school graduate or equivalent,
3 to 5 years phlebotomy experience
Basic Life support certification is required,
Needs valid driver license and insurance for outreach Senior phlebotomist
Successful completion of all Orientation Programs,
