Job description

Position Summary:
The Ceramics and Studio Art Instructor position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create an innovative and engaging learning environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teach and serve as lead faculty for ceramics and other 3D studio art courses. This includes coordinating curriculum and assessment, as well as onboarding and training part-time faculty.
• Maintain 3D and Ceramics equipment, order materials, and supervise lab technicians.
• Support program marketing and cocurricular events like the student art show
• Foster collaboration between 2D and 3D arts.
• Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and if needed weekend classes in person; develop and teach online courses as needed.
• Syllabus writing, textbook selection, and curriculum planning and development
• Participate in program level learning assessment, which includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, collecting and submitting relevant data, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
• Provide leadership in identifying trends and working with other faculty to develop new curriculum to address these trends.
• Manage relationships with key transfer institutions and recommend strategies to maintain program articulation and activities/initiatives that encourage student completion.
• Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service.
• Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
• Participate in college professional development activities and stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:
• Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours during fall and winter semester
• On campus presence at least four days per week during the academic year
• Being a professional faculty member at Washtenaw Community College is a year-round responsibility which includes curriculum development, professional improvement and development, and other professional responsibilities.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Earned master’s degree,  MFA or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Ceramics OR master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in ceramics required.
• Two (2) years of successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a ceramics studio, including equipment and tools, materials, environmental impact, and studio safety
• Demonstrated experience in developing instructional materials in studio art.
