Duties/Responsibilities:

  • County Extension Intern for Agriculture & Natural Resources -interns assist the agent in conducting on-farm research plots, providing educational workshops, writing news articles & newsletters, making farm visits, assisting homeowners with horticultural questions, and working with community leaders.
  • County Extension Intern for 4-H Youth Development – interns assist the agent in planning and conducting youth programs & activities for the county. Will involve working directly with youth and adult volunteers. May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. Will write news articles & newsletters.
  • County Extension Intern for Family & Consumer Sciences – interns will assist the agent with educational programs related to food & nutrition, financial management, housing, clothing or family well-being. Will write news articles and newsletters and assist with Extension Homemakers.

Position Summary:

UGA Cooperative Extension, Southeast District is seeking five (6) qualified applicants for a paid internship for college students to work in a county Extension office. Students will be matched with an agent in the county or region they prefer, if possible. The internship is a twelve-week employment, with a start date of May 13, 2024 – August 2, 2024, this internship does not include benefits but may earn college credits. It will be up to the student to work with the internship coordinator in their department to arrange for college credits.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Students currently enrolled at any college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program are eligible. Graduates may also apply for an internship during the semester immediately following graduation.
Interest in pursuing a career with UGA Cooperative Extension. Related majors may include agriculture, animal science, biological sciences, environmental science, child and family development, forestry, foods and nutrition, human development and family science, education, health promotion, natural resource management, and plant sciences.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

- Interested in pursuing a career in Extension
- Desire to serve others and a genuine interest in people
- Ability to lead, teach, motivate and communicate effectively
- Desire to work as part of a team.
- Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to show high standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits
