Job Summary:
About the Role & Team
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our data team. The Data Engineer will be responsible for developing, constructing, installing, and maintaining data architectures, databases, and large-scale processing systems. They will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data availability and reliability.
What You Will Do
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and storing data from various sources (e.g., databases, APIs, logs).
- Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models and schemas to support data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
- Data Transformation: Transform and clean data to ensure its quality, consistency, and usability for analytics and reporting.
- Database Management: Administer and optimize databases for performance, security, and data integrity.
- ETL Processes: Create and manage Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to move data between systems and perform transformations as necessary.
- Data Integration: Integrate data from various sources and systems to create a unified and comprehensive view of the data.
- Data Security: Implement data security and access controls to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Monitoring and Maintenance: Set up monitoring tools to track data pipeline performance and resolve issues proactively.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for data processes, data lineage, and system architecture.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and support their projects.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
- Proficiency in data modeling, ETL development, and database management.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Knowledge of big data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is a plus.
- Familiarity with data warehousing and data lake solutions.
- Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, data warehousing).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Understanding of data privacy and security best practices.
Education
Currently enrolled or graduated within the past six months from an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Information
Am I Eligible?
- At the time of application, you must be enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
- Must provide full work availability.
- Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May/June - August/September 2024. Interns must be fully available for the duration of a 12-week assignment.
- Please note the safety and well-being of our teams is very important to us. Based on government recommendations, we will determine whether this program will be in-person at our Burbank, CA studio or virtual in the coming months.
The pay rate for this role in Burbank, CA, is $40.00 per hour.
