Internal Job Title : Fiscal Specialist
Role : Financial Accounting
Classification : Full-time, Exempt
Reports to : Fiscal Manager, Grants and Contracts
Location : Houston, TX

Position Description :
The Fiscal Specialist will provide on-going budget and programmatic monitoring for grant-funded program to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Track all grant-related expenditures and reconcile documentation to the agency’s general ledger for each grant.
- Assure appropriateness of all items billed to a funder according to the funder’s fiscal policies.
- Prepare monthly spreadsheets, year-to-date, and balance amounts in a form acceptable to the Agency and/or each funder.
- As necessary, meet with program staff to strategize needed budget transfers that accurately reflect the program and are allowable according to the individual funder.
- Prepare/submit budget transfer requests in a format appropriate for each funding source.
- Review monthly subcontractor invoices and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to fiscal regulations.
- Ensure the appropriateness and accuracy of allocated expenses.
- Prepare renewal budgets for assigned funders.
- Keep up to date with budget-related policy, requirements, and changes thereof for each assigned funder.
- Follow funder and agency policies and requirements with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Prepare for and coordinate fiscal site/monitoring visits.
- Participate in monthly meetings with grant program staff to provide fiscal feedback about grants and contracts.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual fiscal reports as required by the funder and/or the Agency.
- Prepare fiscal handbooks/manuals required by the agency/grant/contractor
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field.
- Two (2) years’ experience working in a social service capacity/setting.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software or other web-based database.
- Experience creating data visualizations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge of non-profit services and programs.
- Possess persuasive, clear, and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to read and interpret data, information, and documents.
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines.

- Environment: Hybrid – Office
- Range of Schedule: Mon – Fri, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
