Under the technological supervision of the Chief Dosimetrist, the direct supervision of the Physics Manager, and professional direction of the Clinical Faculty, the Sr. Dosimetrist designs external beam treatment plans for patient treatments by using a treatment planning computer, computer support system, and computer quality improvement verifications and others with quarterly rotations to all radiation oncology sites (Mt Zion, Parnassus and Mission Bay (2014).


The Sr. Dosimetrist accepts assignments by the Chief Dosimetrist, plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, and/or accepted published practices. Completed work is evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformance to policy and requirements. The Chief Dosimetrist verifies treatment plans and a Qualified Physicists completes a final physics check.
Treatment planning is an essential section within the Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Its mandate is to perform all the activities required (planning, training, documenting, etc.) to implement prescribed isodose distributions used in the treatment of cancer patients.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
