GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The mission of the UMass Chan Collaborative in Health Equity (CHE) is to: 1) nurture and sustain community embeddedness and trust, 2) center health equity throughout innovations in clinical care, research, education, and service that engages the local as well as global community, and 3) bolster community workforce development, and participation in research and clinical trials, while amplifying pathways to diversify the workforce with individuals underrepresented in medicine (URiM). The vision of the CHE is to advance health equity for vulnerable, underserved, and historically marginalized communities.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the CHE, the Program Manager, and Directors of the CHE cores, the Program Coordinator will establish the administrative structure and manage the day-to-day activities of the CHE. The Program Coordinator will work with CHE leadership, UMass Chan faculty, learners, staff, and community stakeholders in coalescing institutional, community, and global partnerships in research planning, organizing educational and community engagement and outreach events and activities hosted by the CHE and work with community and research teams in planning, designing, and writing grant proposals, manuscripts, and policy briefs related to health equity. The position requires independent judgment and initiative, as well as verbal and written communication with faculty, staff, learners, and community stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Administer the day-to-day activities of the CHE and provide administrative support to CHE leadership.
• Coordinate community, educational, research and service planning meetings, including CHE annual conferences, speaker series, selected grant planning meetings, Governance Board (including Community Advisory Board), internal/external Leadership Council advisory meetings, etc.
• Work closely with the Director of Community Engagement and Outreach and the Program Coordinator in establishing and maintaining a Collaborative Database and associated listservs comprised of institution-wide faculty, staff, and learners, as well as community and global partners/stakeholders engaged in health equity efforts as well as Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), education, service, and clinical care in order to coalesce the silos of excellence in health equity work across UMass Chan, its schools, clinical affiliates and regional partners, the greater Worcester community and global partners
• Work closely with the Director of Community Engagement and Outreach and the Program Manager in developing and maintaining a communication plan for disseminating information out to and across the Worcester community, as well as across UMass Chan, its regional and global partners and clinical affiliates providing up to date information about both CHE and community activities, events, research, and service engagement.
• Write and update material for CHE website and develops content for social media communications, and CHE newsletters and annual reports. Request updates to website and social media channels and recommend content and design elements. May partner/liaise with UMass Chan marketing and communications teams on communications projects and materials.
• Work closely with the 4 core arms of the CHE: 1) Community Engagement and Outreach, 2) Global Health, 3) Research, Education, and Training, and 4) URiM Community Workforce Development and Capacity-Building, to seamlessly align, integrate, and center community embeddedness and sustained trust throughout all of the CHE’s initiatives and efforts.
• Contribute to the compilation of reports, data analyses, and papers describing project/program results in conjunction with the Executive Director, Program Manager, as well as Directors of the 4 cores of the CHE. This may include drafting and/or editing complex and confidential documents, correspondence, reports and spreadsheets; preparing briefings and materials for presentations; attending meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and tracking or researching action items.
• Independently uses judgement to coordinate and prioritize multiple/complex calendars. Coordinates large, recurring meetings and logistics both on and off-site, that may include external community groups/constituents/stakeholders.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive social media content strategy that aligns with the CHE’s mission and goals. Create a content calendar to plan posts in advance in coordination with the Office of Communications and other relevant offices/departments/service lines. Foster an online community around the CHE that encourages active participation and discussion.
• Liaison with the Office of Communications, Diversity and Inclusion Office, and other relevant offices/departments/service lines regarding campus-wide and community events that engage the CHE to coalesce resonance and impact
• Manage the logistics of organizing and implementing creative community and campus-wide initiatives
• Optimize the CHE website for search engines and user experience, ensuring it is responsive and accessible to a wide range of audiences
• Seek feedback from the UMass Chan and wider Worcester community to ensure initiatives align with communities’ expressed interests, priorities, and needs
• Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution, preferably with a degree in Public Health, Social Work, Global Health, or a health-related health care field
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in providing administrative support in academic and/or community-based settings
• Prior experience working in and across diverse community and/or academic settings, including global contexts
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with diverse leaders, faculty, staff, learners, and community stakeholders
• Communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, to interact with leadership, faculty, staff, learners, and community stakeholders
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task

• Demonstrated ability to use computer-based tools including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database products, and including advanced knowledge of all features of Microsoft office suite.
• Ability to provide a high level of customer service to faculty, staff, learners, and community stakeholders in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving.
• Ability to travel to off-site locations.
